Family Link (Adoption/Foster Care Agency)
An overview of the organization: http://familylinkkids.com/
- Nourse Family: Dad is a teacher at Bowie High School, Mom is an office manager for an orthodontist’s office. They ahve adopted an 8 year old little girl through FamilyLink that, before coming to the Courses home, was moved from foster home to foster home. They are currently fostering a sibling group of 3; ages 11, 9, and 6. These children would have been separated or placed in a shelter if this amazing family hadn’t stepped in to show them someone loves them! - The Galvans: Carlos and Amy Galvan say they are happiest when there are lots of children underfoot. Their record with FamilyLink since 2007 would certainly prove that, sine they have seen 32 placements come and go. The Galvan’s have also adopted three children. Currently the children in their home are ages 15, 9, 8, 4, 3 and 4 months. Amy said she would likely have a dozen children if her house was big enough. She said the greatest joy she gets from fostering is hearing a once sad child break into laughter, and from watching the transformations in children who feel safe and loved. To Assist the Galvans Foster Care Family in 78747: Replacing Boards, stabilizing playscape, replacing toilet, hanging doors http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/1152345634555422049
- The Smith Home: Scott and Lynn Smith were one of the first families licensed by Family Link. They are a unique and exceptional family. Scott is legally blind yet he works full-time and is an active father to his children. Lynn is a nurse and has tended to some medically fragile children in their home. The Smiths have cared for numerous children throughout the years. They have adopted an African American baby boy, who came to their home at just a few days old. His biological mother exposed him to drugs and alcohol in utero.
He is now 4 years old! They are in the process of adopting a 3 year old
little boy, who may have also been exposed to alcohol prior to his birth,
and a one year old African American little girl. They have three children of
their own. These three older children, Maranatha, Nathaniel and Christoper, have never thought of the children coming into their home as their foster brothers or
foster sisters, they were their brothers and sisters. Lynn homeschools her
children and has tapped into each child's strengths and interests, including
the young ones. Elijah and Luke are both learning to play the piano. I am
sure Sarahbeth will too when she gets a little older. This family is truly
amazing and they have an unending amount of love to give to others. To Assist the Smiths Foster Care Family in South Austin: http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/932345634182370084
- Lattimore Home: Constance Lattimore is the quintessential mom who has been a foster parent for six years. She has adopted 4 children and is still fostering. She currently has 5 girls in her home and is expecting another as soon as school is out. Constance is gifted with a calm and soothing demeanor which gives her the grace and patience to be a hero to young teen and pre-teen girls. She says the girls who come to her home may come as victims, but they leave as victors. They need donations! - Cheryl Biggs raised her 2 sons to be caring, productive Christian men. In 2009, when her youngest son was 17, Cheryl began to feel a tug on her heart to foster or adopt more children. Her best friends were foster parents, and encouraged Cheryl to become licensed. She hasn’t looked back since. Cheryl is a strong nurturer, who believes in clear boundaries and lots of hugs. Cheryl is the Director of Children’s Ministries at her Church and enjoys the interaction with so many children. Currently, 4 lucky children are placed in Cheryl’s home, ages 6, 3, 2 and 9 months. WHAT IS RED DAY?
RED Day (Renew, Energize and Donate) is an initiative dedicated to celebrating Keller Williams Realty’s year-round commitment to improving our local communities. Each year, on the second Thursday in May, tens of thousands of associates from across the United States and Canada participate in a wide range of projects, devoting our time to renewing and energizing aspects of the neighborhoods in which we serve.¿
Recognizing her leadership in guiding the culture of our company, RED Day is held in honor of Mo Anderson, vice chairman of the board, Keller Williams Realty.
Our vision for this day is that all Keller Williams associates will actively engage in a coordinated effort to improve their local community. Activities run the gamut, including rehabbing a house, cleaning up a local trail, or providing food for the homeless or any service related activity needed in your community.
In order for this day to be a huge success, we need your energy and your commitment. Each market center will be asked to identify and coordinate an activity which will have a visible impact on their local community and surroundings. We are confident that each market center will embrace this opportunity for positive change while demonstrating KW culture and spirit to their community.
This event is an entrenched part of Keller Williams Realty’s culture and displays the extraordinary effect a company can have when individuals come together to work as a team for the greater good of everyone. As Mark Ozman, associate with the Indianapolis/Carmel market center, wrote in an article you can view here,
“RED Day isn’t about cleaning up a park. It is a one-day expression of what happens 24/7 in the Keller Williams culture. It is seeing a need, discovering who can meet that need and then getting it done.”
